(CNN Spanish) — Thanksgiving Day arrives and, with it, the event that brings together millions in New York every year: the Macy’s Thanksgiving parade, which this year will be held on November 24 and you can see from 09:00 am Miami time.
The traditional Macy’s event began in 1924 as a Christmas parade to celebrate the store’s expansion, but three years later it was renamed the Thanksgiving Day Parade. The giant balloons debuted precisely in 1927, the year in which they could see, for example, dinosaurs over 18 meters high.
Here are some details of the 2022 edition.
The new inflatables
In addition to some of the designs that are already familiar to the public – such as Snoopy, Pikachu and SpongeBob – the 2022 parade will feature five new inflatables: Bluey the pup, from the popular series that bears his name; Greg Heffley, the protagonist of the “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” book series; the apatosaurus Sinclaire oil & DINO with a baby dinosaur companion and the minion Start. Here you can take a look at the more than 25 inflatables that will parade.
Among this year’s performances there will be a special for a large part of the Latino community: Gloria Estefan will perform with her daughter Emily and her grandson Sasha, with whom she recorded “Estefan Family Christmas,” which has songs in English and Spanish. The list of artists also includes Ziggy Marley, Joss Stone, Fitz and the Tantrums, Jordin Sparks, Betty Who, Big Time Rush, Sean Paul, Blanco Brown and CAM. See the complete list here.
How to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
More than 3.5 million people in New York and more than 50 million people from their homes watch the parade, according to the organization. NBC will broadcast the event starting at 09:00 am Miami time with the hosting of Hoda Kotb, Savannah Guthrie and Al Rocker. TV broadcasts of the event began in the city in 1946 and spread to the entire country the following year. By then, it had already been broadcast on the radio for more than 10 years.
