A man pointed a gun at the head of Argentine Vice President Cristina Kirchner at close range Thursday night and appeared to pull the trigger, video of the incident replayed on Argentine television showed.

The weapon didn’t discharge, and police quickly arrested a 35-year-old man who authorities said is a Brazilian living in Argentina. In cellphone videos on social media, Mrs. Kirchner, who wasn’t harmed, can be seen from several angles flinching and ducking after the gunman aimed the weapon at her face from just inches away on a busy street in the elegant Recoleta neighborhood of Buenos Aires.
